Champagne Cellars
Many
people come to the area to visit the Champagne producers, some because they
want to taste the Grande Marques in their home town, some to see the palaces of the great Champagne houses and some
to taste and buy from small producers. On this page we provide you
with links to access of all these. Geographically, the cellars fall into
three areas:
Epernay
is a little town with a good number of well known Champagne producers and the Avenue de Champagne which Winston Churchill called ‘the most drinkable address
in the world'. This street is very attractive especially at night when the pavement is lit by the logos of the
companies whose palaces are all along it. Epernay
Tourist Information is based at the start of the avenue and can provide all kinds of
support and advice on wine visiting. They should also have a copy of
“Les Rendez-vous Privilegies” from the Independent Wine Producers
of Champagne
which you can use to plan any visits to the smaller producers. Within Epernay the
most obvious large producer to visit are

Reims
Champagne
Reims
is an ancient city (the Roman forum is still in use as a
restaurant area) with a fine cathedral and a number of classy Champagne houses scattered around various railway lines. The most
obvious ones to visit are:

The countryside
Tourist
information in Epernay and Reims can advise of wineries in the
countryside and arrange tours. At both tourist information offices you can get the small booklet (you have to ask for it) called “Les Rendez-vous
Privilegies” from the independent wine producers and this holds all the information you need to visit some small producers. It shows when each of them is holding an open weekend and which are open for "walk in" tastings.
