Champagne Route

We start the bike route from Epernay heading north towards Reims, we go anti-clockwise around the Montagne de Reims following rivers and canals from Epernay to Reims. We enter Reims along the canal de l'Aisne and leave the same way heading north-west until we can join up with the Canal des Ardennes and then we ride north to Rethel and Charleville-Mezieres.  Charleville is the  French centre of giant-puppet manufacture  and display.  Charleville also has a large hotel built into a castle.  We then join the green route  following the Meuse river to Givet.  Here you can catch the train back to Epernay where yoFort De Charlemont et Eglise St Hilaire at Givetu started.

Accommodation is plentiful in the cities but, given the popularity of this area, finding somewhere to stay at short notice can be difficult in high summer. The accommodation column below provides an indication of the number of hotels or similar in each village/town.
