Constance Bike Hire - Including Local Transport
For your self-guided tour you may need a bike hire shop to rent a bike. Bike hire is available around the lake but few hire shops have a web presence. Where web sites exist we have shown them. Depending on bicycle quality you should expect to pay €7-10 per day although competition may reduce this. You may even want to use this holiday to try renting a tandem. Friedrichshafen Tourist Information offers a free GPS route map for this tour. We have not tested it but you can download it from Bike Guide. The bike hire shops that are most convenient are in Friedrichshafen but we have added others as we have discovered them. Before you contact any of the local bike shops read the advice in our Bike Guide.

During your tour we hope you will not need this, but if you do the hire shops will provide a maintenance service (at a fee) even for each others' bikes. In addition we have identified two other repair shops though there are many more.
Check our puncture repair video at MyBikeGuide before you go. We also a recommend a couple of guides (a large and a small one) on repairing bikes.
Heathrow and Paris all have relatively expensive luggage storage. Frankfurt only has small luggage lockers.
Zurich airport has left luggage.
Train and bike
There are good bus services around the lake, however each bus company works only in a limited number of towns and web site access is poor. You can obtain information from local tourist information offices. On the Swiss side, the same company runs the bus and train services so they are well integrated.
On the German side there is:

The Zeppelin is a fabulous way to enjoy the scenery when visibility is clear. It does not fly every day (due to weather problems or lack of demand) and needs to be booked a fair amount of time ahead, so if you want to fly (and you can afford it - it isn't cheap) you should book well before you leave for the holiday.
