This bike route uses ferry
and bridge crossings between the various islands that make up Zeeland.
It takes you along the canals of Flanders through a number of ancient
towns. On occasion you will ride away from the coast but you are never
far from a canal, river or lake. The area is flat, the locals mostly
speak some English (though you may need to give them time to engage),
the food is generally good and the beer very interesting.
Accommodation is plentiful
but, given the popularity of this area, finding somewhere to stay at
short notice can be difficult in high summer. The accommodation column below provides an indication of the number of hotels or similar in each village/town. Brielle is the only town shown which is off the direct route, but it is very pretty and worth a detour if you have time. A more detailed map can be found at North Sea map. The route below goes from south west to north east, as does the prevailing wind.
