Spanish Islands Maps

Spain has at least ten holiday islands which provide good cycling. The coastal areas can be very touristy, but travel inland and you'll find a much more rural environment. The islands split into two groups:
  • The Balearic Islands to the east of mainland Spain in the Mediterranean, and
  • The Canary Isles to the west of Africa in the Atlantic.
The Canaries tend to be warmer but windier. They make a good winter cycling destination.

Balearic Islands

There are a fair few tiny islets in this area but the core four are

  • Mallorca
  • Menorca
  • Ibiza
  • Formentera
Links to buy maps for these are below. We also offer the Rough Guide to Mallorca and Menorca.

The Canary Isles

The islands are not named after the little birds, but in high summer they can be filled up with flying visitors from Europe. Once away from shoulder and high season the less popular islands become bike-friendly. Of these Fuerteventura is our preferred option.

Apart from the very small islands you can visit the following

  • La Palma
  • Tenerife
  • Lanzarote
  • Fuerteventura
  • La Gomera
  • El Hierro
