Swiss Food

The food in Switzerland takes its cue from Germany, Italy, France and the conditions in the mountains.
French influence
  • Fondue - a wide range of options but the basic is a heated melted cheese bowl into which you dip things on skewers
  • Raclette - potatoes dripping in cheese with the odd spicy thing
  • Leek and potato stew with cabbage and bits of sausage
  • Meringue - tiny ones for munching in the street and larger ones in restaurants
  • Carac - chocolate and pastry
  • Chocolate in all its forms

German influence

  • Rösti - sort of large hash browns
  • Müesli
  • Macaroni baked with potatoes, onions, cheese and bacon
